The trees crept closer, crowding out the sun, casting them all into darkness. Thomas looked to FitzWilliam, and saw nothing in those dark eyes. Neither fear for himself, nor affection for his son.
“Who will you choose, boy?” his father asked. “Her, or me?”
“Thomas?” His wife’s voice was fear-filled.
